Hiroshima

The city of Hiroshima provides a heart-rending reminder of the impact of war. A World Heritage site, the ‘A-Bomb Dome’, also called the ‘Hiroshima Peace Memorial’ shows the outcome of that fateful day on 6th August 1945 on the former Industrial Promotion Hall of Hiroshima.

Stop by the Children’s Peace Monument, and gaze at the statue of Sadoko, a young girl who died of radiation poisoning. Told she’d get better if she made 1,000 paper cranes, visitors leave them at the site to pay their respects. The monument is now home to cranes from all over the world in a variety of different colours. Make your own and leave them for others to see.
