We have access to their education centre, which contains displays and information about the centre and the cheetahs it protects. We can also observe a feeding programme and join a guided cheetah drive in one of the large enclosures. -
Day 5: Transfer to Etosha National Park
We transfer to the Onguma Private Reserve on the eastern edge of Etosha National Park, and enjoy the setting of the accommodation and wildlife that visits the reserve's waterhole. -
Days 6-7 : Safaris in Etosha National Park
Namibia's premier national park is considered by many to be one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Southern Africa, and this phase is the main game-viewing section of the trip.
The wildlife is superb, and we are likely to see many of the common antelope species, typical plains game with large numbers of African elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, predators and masses of birds.
The eastern area of Namutoni offers us some of the best waterholes in the park to view wildlife, before a second day is spent enjoying an epic safari-transfer across the park to the southern perimeter.
-
Days 8-9 : Visit Damaraland
One of the most culturally important regions of the country, not to mention scenically spectacular, is Damaraland.
Here, we spend time with a Damara community to learn about the plants used for food, perfumes and medicines, and how they used to hunt and gather from the wild, in addition to learning how to make fire. We also head into the rugged terrain of the region’s dried river systems in search of desert elephants.
We also visit Twyfelfontein - one of the most culturally important sites in the entire country, which contains some 2,500 rock engravings on over 200 slabs of rock - one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa.
-
Days 10-11 : Explore the Atlantic Desert Coast
We drive through The Giant's Playground - where the landscape is as dramatic as it is beautiful – and arrive in Swakopmund on the Atlantic Coast.
