Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

    Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Osaka, via Tokyo.
  2. Day 2: Arrive Osaka

    On arrival in Osaka, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
  3. Day 3: Optional Tours & Street Food in Osaka

    Explore the city of Osaka; you could visit the friendly wild deer in Nara Park, feel the adrenaline of rollercoasters at Universal Studios, and then finish the day with a street food tour to tantalise your taste buds.
  4. Day 4: Osaka to Hiroshima by Bullet Train

    Today, embark on your first journey by bullet train - watch the countryside glide by as you travel to Hiroshima.

    Upon arrival, you're free to explore the city on your own or take a guided tour of the Peace Memorial Park, a serene and poignant area dedicated to the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing.

  5. Day 5: Bullet Train to Beppu, Thermal Hot Springs & Miso Making

    Take the bullet train to Beppu, and step into the fascinating world of the famous 'Seven Hells of Beppu'.

    Explore geothermal wonders and hot springs, get hands-on at the Jigoku Onsen Museum, and even cook your dinner using the mineral-rich steam – a unique cooking method dating back centuries.

    You also learn the traditional process of miso – one of Japan’s most essential ingredients. 

  6. Day 6: Hands-On Day of Japanese Craftsmanship

    Today you get to shape clay into bowls, cups or plates, learning Onta Yaki – one of Japan’s most celebrated traditional pottery styles. Following that, craft your very own pair of chopsticks, learning techniques passed down through generations.

    Both of these offer a memorable souvenir to take home from your trip.

  7. Day 7: Beppu to Kuju & Bungo-Ōno

    Travel through rolling hills and picturesque villages from Beppu to the Kuju region, stopping at Harajiri no Taki, a wide and cascading waterfall often referred to as the ‘Niagara of Japan’. Continue through scenic farmland, the Kuju Flower Park, and finish the day with a live, powerful Taiko drumming performance.
  8. Day 8: Kuju Day at Leisure

    Relax at the hotel or explore the area. Take in the breathtaking beauty of the Aso region, from rolling highlands to volcanic scenery, offering a deeper understanding of rural Japan.

    Stop at Aso Farm Land Animal Kingdom for friendly interactions with some of the animals here, or alternatively go horse riding, an authentic trail riding experience through the beautiful Kuju Highlands.

  9. Day 9: Depart Kuju for the UK

    Sadly, your time in the Oita Prefecture has come to an end, and you're transferred back to the airport for your overnight flight home to the UK.
  10. Day 10: Arrive UK

  11. Days 9-11 : OPTIONAL EXTENSIONS: Tokyo

    Spend a few extra nights in Tokyo, either at the start or end of your itinerary. Be dazzled by the city’s bright lights, experience the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing, and explore vibrant neighbourhoods like Shinjuku and Harajuku.

    Take in panoramic views of Mount Fuji, visit serene temples and gardens, and savour Tokyo’s world-class cuisine, from sushi to street food.
