Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the ‘red city’; Marrakech. Be absorbed by the lively bazaars infused with spices, oranges and mint, marvel at the culture and history of this imperial city, or search through the souks for your magic carpet and Aladdin’s lamp.
At sunset venture into the market square, the Djemma el Fna, and watch as it comes alive; a carnival of entertainment with snake charmers, acrobats, jugglers to entertain. Savour the flavour of the sweet mint tea and barbequed meats or enjoy a traditional Moroccan Tagine. You can choose to stay in either the central Medina area, right in the heart of things with more traditional style accommodation, or out in the Palmerie which is further away but tends to have more relaxed and spacious accommodation.
What is a Riad? Marrakech and Essaouira are famous for their selection of riads. A riad is a traditional Moroccan home of nobility with a central courtyard/patio many with beautiful fountains, surrounded with fragrant flowers and trees. The adjacent salon is ornate in decoration with low comfortable seating – perfect to enjoy a glass on mint tea and Moroccan pastries. Although beautiful and typically Moroccan some are not suitable for families given their ambience, space and style. Many rooms in a riad may not be large enough for extra beds and the rooms will not be adjoining. However, there are notable exceptions and some are ideal so please ask for details of the carefully selected ‘family-friendly’ riads we recommend.
