Combining a fascinating mixture of travel, history, culture and wildlife - with some added spooky scares that will shock and horrify along the way - this is a fantastic family tour that explores the rural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Romania's Transylvania region.
Travelling from Transylvania to the capital city of Bucharest, we pass through beautiful towns, witnessing a traditional rural life that's centuries old, exploring vast underground salt mines, visiting iconic castles and medieval citadels, encountering Romania's brown bears, navigating haunted forests and discovering the legend of Count Dracula.
We start in Cluj with a relaxed city tour and, time permitting, an atmospheric night walk in the legendary - and supposedly haunted - Hoia Baciu Forest. From here the trip heads underground to the Turda Salt Mine and the medieval city of Sighișoara. We stop at King Charles’ beloved village of Viscri for a horse-cart ride before continuing to Brașov.
In the Brașov–Bran area, we take an excursion into the mountains on the panoramic Tampa cable-car and visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary before entering one of the most famous castles in the world, Bran. Here we enjoy a horror tour of its corridors, torture chamber and time tunnel - ending the day with a Halloween-themed campfire party.
On our way to Bucharest we travel through the Prahova Valley, taking in Cantacuzino Castle and Peleș Castle before arriving in the capital where we visit the open-air Village Museum and enjoy the water slides and thermal spa at Therme Bucharest.
