With a lovely mix of cultural and wildlife experiences in the jungles of Borneo’s Sarawak region, your family will love watching the country’s most famous resident, orangutans, swing through the rainforest, meeting local jungle dwelling communities and river rafting.
- Watch orangutans swing through the trees
- See endemic proboscis monkeys
- Float down the river on a bamboo raft
- Stay with the Iban community in Batang Ai
- Experience Bidayuh hospitality at a local homestay
This small group family tour starts with a visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where you can watch orphaned and rescued orangutans swing through the trees and learn about the centre’s conservation work.
Spend a few days with the oldest Iban settlement in Sarawak in an isolated area of Batang Ai, known as Ulu Ai. Here, you get an insight into the Iban way of life, stay at a lodge in the heart of the rainforest on the Delok River, visit a waterfall, enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and spend time with the Iban people.
Float down the river on a traditional bamboo raft and enjoy a delicious bbq lunch, consisting of local Bidayuh dishes served in bamboo tubes before an overnight stay with a local family - Bidayuh, also known as Land Dayak – in a mini longhouse, to learn of the tribe's cultures.
You also have the option to experience an enchanting nighttime frogging tour, searching for some of the 60 species of frogs and other nocturnal creatures, then take a tour to the small peninsula of Bako National Park, where you can see crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, flying squirrels, and monitor lizards.
