After beginning in Hanoi, your tour then takes you out to a rural eco-retreat set among the rice paddies and villages of the Hoa Binh province. Continue to the world famous Halong Bay and venture out to a quieter part of the region for cycling and kayaking on a 2-night cruise. Stay in the cities of Hue and Hoi An where activities include taking part in a Buddhist chanting ceremony, a bike ride through the countryside or a snorkelling boat trip to Cham Island.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

    Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Hanoi.

  2. Day 2: Arrive Hanoi

    Arrive in Hanoi, where you're met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax after your journey or begin exploring the atmospheric streets of Vietnam’s capital.

  3. Day 3: Hanoi city tour, cyclo ride & puppet show

    Discover Hanoi’s highlights, including the historic Temple of Literature and the peaceful Hoan Kiem Lake. Enjoy a traditional cyclo ride through the maze of streets in the Old Quarter, visit Ngoc Son Temple and experience the unique atmosphere of the famous train-track cafés.

    This evening there's the option to watch a traditional water puppet show, a uniquely Vietnamese performance combining music, storytelling and colourful puppetry.

  4. Days 4-5 : Pu Luong Nature Reserve

    Leave Hanoi behind and travel into the mountains of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, where rice terraces, traditional villages and dramatic landscapes await.

    Explore this beautiful region, visiting local communities, discovering traditional waterwheels and learning about rural life. Enjoy a bamboo rafting experience along the river and discover the crafts and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

  5. Day 6: Cuc Phuong National Park

    Travel to Cuc Phuong National Park, Vietnam’s oldest national park and a haven for biodiversity. Enjoy a guided walk beneath the forest canopy, visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre and discover fascinating prehistoric caves. Later, continue to Ninh Binh for a 2-night stay.
  6. Day 7: Ninh Binh’s Limestone Landscapes

    Explore the spectacular scenery of Ninh Binh, often known as the ‘inland Hạ Long Bay’. Take a rowing boat through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Trang An Grottoes, passing through caves and beneath towering limestone karsts. Visit Bai Dinh Pagoda, home to Vietnam’s largest bronze Buddha statue, and discover the fascinating history and culture of this beautiful region.

  7. Days 8-9 : Halong Bay Boat Cruise

    Embark on a 2-night cruise through the spectacular landscapes of Hạ Long Bay and Bái Tử Long Bay. Sail between towering limestone islands, hidden caves and tranquil waters while enjoying life onboard. Take part in a range of activities including kayaking, swimming, Tai Chi and Vietnamese cooking demonstrations, or simply relax on deck and admire one of Vietnam’s most iconic landscapes.

  8. Day 10: Overnight train to Hue

    After disembarking your cruise, return to Hanoi where you have time to relax and freshen up before boarding your overnight sleeper train to Hue.

  9. Day 11: Discover Hue’s Imperial Heritage

    Arrive in Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital. Explore the magnificent Imperial City, visit the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda and discover the history of the Nguyen Dynasty. Enjoy a traditional vegetarian lunch at a Buddhist pagoda before visiting the elegant Tomb of Tu Duc, one of Hue’s most beautiful royal tombs.

  10. Day 12: Scenic drive to Hoi An

    Travel south to Hoi An via one of Vietnam’s most spectacular coastal routes. Pass the beautiful sands of Lang Co Beach and cross the Hai Van Pass, with breathtaking views across the mountains and East Sea. On arrival in Hoi An, discover the town’s famous lantern tradition with a hands-on lantern-making experience.

  11. Days 13-14 : Hoi An Adventures

    Discover the countryside surrounding Hoi An by bike, visiting local villages, farms and the waterways of Cam Thanh eco-village. Learn about traditional farming, explore the Nipa palm forest by bamboo basket boat and experience local life away from the Old Town. Take a boat trip to Cham Island, where you can explore fishing villages, visit local landmarks and snorkel in the clear waters surrounding this beautiful island.

    Enjoy free time to wander Hoi An’s lantern-lit streets, relax by the pool or explore this enchanting riverside town.

  12. Day 15: Leisure Time & Fly Home

    Enjoy a final relaxed day in Hoi An. Take time to revisit your favourite places, shop for souvenirs, relax by the pool or enjoy one last taste of Vietnamese cuisine before your evening transfer to the airport.

  13. Day 16: Arrive UK
