After beginning in Hanoi, your tour will then take you out to a rural eco-retreat set among the rice paddies and villages of the Hoa Binh province. Continue to the world famous Halong Bay and venture out to a quieter part of the region for cycling and kayaking on a two-night cruise. Stay in the cities of Hue and Hoi An and take a countryside bike ride as well as a snorkelling boat trip to Cham Island.

Day 1: Depart UK
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Hanoi.

Day 2: Arrive Hanoi
Once you have arrived in Hanoi, you will be met by your guide in the afternoon who will take you on an orientation tour and take you to taste some local specialities.

Day 3: Hanoi city tour, cyclo ride & puppet show
Visit some of Hanoi’s interesting attractions, including the Temple of Literature. Then enjoy a cycle rickshaw tour through the Old Quarter and witness the hustle and bustle of this charming town and its maze of streets. Visit the Hoan Kiem district of Hanoi and enjoy a drink in one of the famous train track cafés and then see beautiful Ngoc Son Temple, set on a tiny island on Hoan Kiem Lake. Finally, this evening you can watch a water puppet show, a delightful performance of music, puppets and songs, before transferring back to your hotel.

Days 4-5 : Waterwheels and rafting
Head into the countryside for a two-night stay at an eco-retreat. Take guided walks through the area to look for traditional waterwheels and explore rice-paddies and isolated villages. Take a traditional bamboo raft down the river and visit local people to learn about their traditional crafts.

Day 6: Ninh Binh
Visit the Trang An Grottoes and take a rowing boat along the river to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Karst mountains. Later visit Vietnam’s biggest bronze Buddha statue.

Days 7-8 : Halong Bay Boat Cruise
Take a two-night cruise to explore some of the quieter areas of Halong bay as well as have the opportunity to stop for swimming, kayaking and bike rides. Relax on board and enjoy the stunning scenery as well as cookery and Tai Chi classes on board.

Day 9: Return to shore take the overnight train to Hue
Disembark your cruise and return to Hanoi where you will take the overnight train to Hue.

Day 10: Hue Countryside Tour
After arriving in Hue, widely considered the most beautiful city in Vietnam, and transferring to your hotel, visit a pagoda to join in the chanting with Buddhist nuns, followed by lunch at the pagoda. After lunch tour the Hue countryside seeing old tombs, ornate bridges and make your own conical hat.

Day 11: Scenic drive to Hoi An
Journey along the coast, past the beautiful beach of Lang Co and over the Hai Van Pass, to arrive at the charming river port of Hoi An. Recently declared a World Heritage Site, Hoi An is being beautifully restored and preserved. Enjoy an afternoon learning the significance of the traditional Hoi An lanterns, and make your own for a wonderful souvenir of your time in Vietnam.

Day 12: Cycle tour
This morning, your guide will take you on a bike ride to a nearby eco–village where you will learn about local farming practices as well as the production of fish sauce, a key ingredient in Vietnamese cookery. Later you will see the water buffalo grazing and have the opportunity to learn to row a coracle on the river.

Day 13: Cham Island cruise
This morning you will depart on a boat trip to the nearby Cham Island. Learn about the island’s history, visit a Marine Protected area, a traditional fishing village and see the Hai Tang pagoda. Later there is the opportunity to go snorkelling and enjoy a seafood lunch.

Day 14: Free day
Today is kept free for you to explore the charming town of Hoi An, relax at the hotel, or visit the My Son Temple Sanctuary.

Day 15: Free day & fly back to the UK
The day is at leisure until it is time to transfer to the airport for your flight home in the evening.

Day 16: Arrive UK
Please note: A moderate level of fitness is required for cycling, walking, wildlife watching and snorkelling.
