See a coffee plantation near San Jose and visit the nearby Poás volcano and La Paz waterfalls. Continue to La Fortuna for a visit to an animal rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary and enjoy a floating river safari. Ride the sky-tram then walk through the tree canopy on hanging bridges in Monteverde’s cloud forest. Next travel south to the Pacific coast where you look for birds and sloths in the rainforest before continuing to the Osa Pensinsula, a haven for wildlife and watersports.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to San José

    Depart the UK on a flight to San José. Flights arrive the same day.

  2. Day 2: Poás volcano, La Paz Waterfall & coffee plantation tour

    Today you visit Poás volcano where you can walk to the crater and see the volcano’s lake and fumaroles. Then hike along the trails around La Paz waterfall and visit a coffee plantation to learn about the country’s most famous crop. 

  3. Day 3: La Fortuna

    Travel through the area’s beautiful landscape for views of the perfectly conical Arenal volcano to La Fortuna, your base for the next three nights. It's a popular holiday destination with locals and tourists alike who come here to enjoy the panoramic views, nature and adventure sports.

  4. Day 4: Visit a wildlife conservation centre

    Today, you visit a wildlife rehabilitation centre to meet some of the rescued animals and learn about the conservation work carried out here. There is also an opportunity to help prepare food and help feed the animals.

  5. Day 5: Floating safari

    Float and paddle gently down the river with your naturalist guide to observe some of the fabulous flora and fauna such as sloths, monkeys, caimans, turtles and vividly coloured tropical birds.

  6. Day 6: Monteverde

    Sail across Arenal Lake and transfer to the cloud forest of Monteverde. This protected cloud forest is home to a huge variety of wildlife.

  7. Day 7: Hanging bridges tour

    Accompanied by an expert, you enjoy a fantastic day out in the Santa Elena de Monteverde Cloud Forest on gondolas, cables and hanging bridges.

  8. Day 8: To the Manuel Antonio region

    Today you will descend from the misty hilltops of Monteverde to Manuel Antonio where the rainforest meets the coast and mangroves. The area provides several different habitats for wildlife.

  9. Day 9: Manuel Antonio National Park

    Take a leisurely walk, accompanied by a naturalist guide, for an exploration of one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful national parks. See a variety of flora and fauna such as sloths and monkeys as well as anteaters and iguanas and listen out for birds as you follow the trails that lead through the park to white-sand beaches.

  10. Day 10: Mangrove boat tour

    Today, take a boat tour through the mangroves of the Damas Island Estuary. Your guides will steer you quietly through areas of protected, pristine estuary as you look out for wildlife such as monkeys, caiman, sloths, crocodiles and egrets.

  11. Day 11: To the Osa Peninsula

    Your journey continues with a drive south along coastal landscapes and rainforest to the Osa Peninsula.

  12. Day 12: Rainforest adventures in the Osa Peninsula

    Choose from a range of rainforest adventures such as a chocolate farm tour, canopy ziplining and bird watching.

  13. Day 13: Water-based activities in the Osa Peninsula

    Choose from a range of aquatic activities such as whale and dolphin watching, snorkelling and surfing.

  14. Day 14: Return to San José

    Drive back to San Jose and enjoy an evening at leisure to explore the historic city centre.

  15. Day 15: Depart Costa Rica

    Transfer to the airport in time for your flight home. Most flights arrive in the UK the following morning.

  16. Day 16: Arrive UK
