Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Kuching via Kuala Lumpur.

  2. Day 2: Arrive Kuching

On arrival in Kuching, a representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is then at leisure to explore this bustling multi-cultural city and its temples, markets and craft shops.

  3. Day 3: Rainforest kayaking in search of orangutans

You enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside before reaching the village where your kayaking adventure begins. As you wind down the meandering streams and gentle rapids, you can see soaring limestone hills that make the perfect backdrop for photographs.

Next you visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to watch the orangutans feeding before returning to Kuching.

  4. Day 4: Bako National Park

Today proceed to Bako National Park for a full day’s tour. The small peninsula is home to seven distinct ecosystems and home to fascinating plants and wildlife, its most famous resident being the bizarre proboscis monkey. Return to Kuching this afternoon.

  5. Day 5: Semonggok: orangutan rehabilitation centre & Bidayuh cultural experience.

This morning visit Semenggoh rehabilitation centre, the best place in Sarawak to see Borneo’s most famous residents, who have been rescued from captivity or deforestation.

You then continue onto a Bidayuh village and enjoy lunch made with fresh, locally grown ingredients by a local family. Visit a longhouse and explore the area, before learning about bamboo's role in the community.

  6. Days 6-7 : Caves of Gunung Mulu National Park

Over the next two days you explore the caves of Gunung Mulu National Park including the longest cave passage in the world - Lang Cave. Next you explore Deer Cave and look out for its free-tailed bat colony which numbers over 1,000 individuals. At dusk, you watch them fly out of the cave to begin their hunt for the night. You then take a night walk through the jungle with your guide who points out luminous fungi and fireflies for you.

The following day you enjoy a longboat ride to see two more of the park's caves - Wind and Clearwater which form part of the Sarawak Chamber - the largest connected cave system in the world. Return to your lodge where you embark on a canopy walk for views over the jungle, as you watch it come alive again in the evening.
