Explore the beautiful blue and green twin lakes of Sete Cidades by kayak and swim in a crater lagoon. Abseil, swim and slide your way through the Dos Caldeiroes canyon and go on a whale watching adventure in the Atlantic Ocean.
Young volcano enthusiasts will love exploring the lava tubes and enjoying a traditional stew cooked by the volcanic vapours in the Valley of Furnas. There’s time for relaxing too, with visits to a volcanic sandy beach, botanical gardens and natural thermal pools.

Day 1: Fly to Ponta Delgada
Arrive in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island, capital of the Azores archipelago.

Day 2: Kayak in Sete Cidades
Explore the famous blue and green twin lakes of Sete Cidades on foot, as you walk on the dirt trail around the rim of the crater. Later, further explore the area by bike and kayak, before visiting a pineapple plantation.

Day 3: Whale watching & volcanic cave
Go on a whale watching adventure in the Atlantic Ocean, where it's possible to see whales and dolphins all year round. After lunch in a local restaurant, explore volcanic lava tubes to observe some very unusual geological phenomena.

Day 4: Walking trail Faial da Terra
Follow a hiking trail along a stream leading to a beautiful waterfall. In the afternoon, learn about one of Europe's most endangered birds - the Priolo - which is endemic to São Miguel.

Day 5: Canyoning & Ribeira Quente Beach
Explore the Ribeira dos Caldeiroes canyon, with opportunities to abseil, jump and slide in a natural adventure playground. In the afternoon, visit a volcanic beach at Ribeira Quente.

Day 6: Lagoa do Fogo & Vila Franca Islet
Ascend the mountain for spectacular views of the 'Lake of Fire'. In the afternoon, visit a volcano located 600 metres from the shore, where you can swim and snorkel in the crater lagoon.

Day 7: Furnas
Visit the Valley of Furnas, known for its geothermal activity. Follow a short walking trail around the fumeroles, hot springs and mud pools, and have your lunch cooked by the underground vapours. This afternoon visit the serene botanical gardens, complete with thermal pools, geysers and a large collection of plants.

Day 8: Fly back to the UK

Days 8-12 : OPTIONAL EXTENSION: Terceira
For those families that have the time and want to extend their stay in the Azores we recommend choosing one of the other islands in the Azores Archipelago. There are nine islands to choose from and we recommend Terceira for families. On Terceira you can take historical tours and learn about the island's discovery, explore underground volcanic caves, hike up Monte Brasil, follow walking and cycling trails across the island, try out scuba diving or simply enjoy time on the beach at Praia da Vitória.
