Explore Marrakech’s maze of markets, admire handmade crafts and inhale the aroma of spices, before transferring to the tranquil Berber villages of the Atlas Mountains on this family adventure holiday in Morocco, designed with young children in mind.
Easy walks with relaxed picnic lunches provide a great way to explore the mountains on this trip. Your children will ride mules as you walk, giving you the opportunity to take in the clear mountain air and enjoy the views. Finally, you’ll have a few days in Essaouira to explore the historic port. Take a stroll around the ramparts, see the old cannons facing out to sea, wander through alleyways packed with traditional crafts, or simply relax on the beach.
Note: Half term departures operate on a shorter 8-day itinerary - please contact us for full details.
Arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport and meet at the group hotel. Relax or explore the surrounding area of Old Marrakech.
Take a tour by horse-drawn carriage and explore this vibrant old city – see palaces, souks and the beautifully preserved Ben Youssef Koranic school. The afternoon is at your leisure – carry on shopping and souvenir hunting, experience a traditional hammam, visit the Saadien Tombs or head back to your hotel to relax.
Head into the tranquil villages of the Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch at Imlil before joining mules and walking (or riding) to your base in the village of Aremd, set below Mount Toubkal. In the afternoon there will be time to explore the village and see how the locals live.
Descend back towards Imlil and pass below the village of Tagadirt, joining a track which takes you into the Imenane Valley. After arriving at the col of Tizi-n-Tamatert, enjoy magnificent views of the upper Imanane valley and the mountains of Oukaimeden, Angour and Iguenouane. Your final destination is the village of Tacheddirt, the highest in the valley, with spectacular views of the surrounding hills.
Explore the authentic Berber village of Tacheddirt, with its terraced irrigated fields, chickens and goats running around, and see how the locals live. It may also be possible to visit a local school.
Follow the winding Imenane Valley along mule tracks, passing small traditional villages and enjoying lunch by a welcome spring, where you can paddle. Arrive at Aremd in the afternoon with some free time to explore.
Walk to the end of the road near Imsker where you’ll transfer by vehicle towards the coast to Essaouira, a former pirates’ lair which is now an active fishing port and attractive resort. After arriving at your hotel/riad, you’ll have time to relax or explore the town.
Enjoy a free day – Essaouira has wide sandy beaches where you can hire camels, go for long walks or even try kite-surfing. Explore the town with its great fish restaurants and bazaars or eat at a stall on the quayside.
Enjoy the morning on the beach before transferring to your hotel in Marrakech, allowing time for final souvenir shopping and a look at the activities in the Djemaa El Fna.
