Explore Marrakech’s maze of markets, admire handmade crafts and inhale the aroma of spices, before transferring to the tranquil Berber villages of the Atlas Mountains on this family adventure holiday in Morocco.
The 2-day trek is an easy and well-trodden route that can be extended each day upon request - depending on abilities and interest. Mules are provided to accompany your family to carry the baggage - but can be also used for small children if parents wish (helmets would be provided). Added optional workshops include pottery painting and Moroccan cookery, while relaxed picnic lunches provide a great way to experience Morocco's welcoming culture, and outstanding mountain scenery.
We use a centrally located modern hotel in Marrakech for the first two nights, before moving to a very comfortable mountain Riad in the Atlas. For cultural authenticity during the easy 2-day trek, one night's spent at a mountain family guesthouse, offering welcoming Berber hospitality, fantastic scenic views and an introduction to the simplicity of rural village life in the mountains. The trip ends with a night at a scenic hotel located in a valley surrounded by the Atlas Mountains, where we can book additional nights on request - contact us to find out more.
Typical Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Marrakech
You're met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Marrakech. Depending upon your arrival time, you may wish to visit the vibrant heart of Marrakech and the Djemma el Fna with your guide.

Day 2: Marrakech City Tour & Pottery Workshop
Enjoy a guided exploration of Marrakech with a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of the city, including visits to Koutoubia Mosque and the Palais Bahia. Take a guided walk through bustling souks, where narrow alleyways are filled with clothing, craft and food.
Relax in the afternoon at your accommodation or venture back into the city for more sights and further explorations of the souk! Alternatively, you can join an optional pottery painting workshop.

Day 3: High Atlas Mountains & Cookery Workshop
Bid farewell to Marrakech and transfer by road to the Atlas Mountains. Having settled into your accommodation, you can join a short hike with your guide to explore the surrounding Berber villages. You have the option to join a Moroccan cookery class should you wish.

Day 4: High Atlas Mountains Hike to Family Guesthouse
Meet your Berber mountain guides and mules, and hike to a neighbouring village deep in the Atlas Mountains. Optional routes are available depending on ability, via the pass of Tizi Tamatert (2,279m). Efforts for the walk up to the pass are rewarded with breathtaking views across two valleys and the high peaks that tower above them.
Tonight you stay in a local gite and enjoy panoramic views of the valley below.

Day 5: High Atlas Mountains Hike to Mountain Hotel
Today's route continues climbing to the col of Tizi n'ou Addi (2,960m) towards Oukaimeden, where you're presented with a dramatic change to the rugged mountainous scenery you've witnessed so far, as the upper valleys are typically lush and green.
Upon arrival at Oukaimeden, you say farewell to your mountain guide, berbers and mules, and transfer to your mountain hotel – set in a valley, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery.

Day 6: Departure
Unless you wish to stay longer at this accommodation, you take a transfer back to the airport in good time to check in for your flight home. Contact us to discuss extending your family holiday.
