Albania offers something for everyone in the family. From the adventures and wild natural beauty of the Vjosa River Valley and the birds of the Karavasta Lagoon to the ancient ruins of Apollonia and historical beach town of Durresi, we lead you on a remarkable and unforgettable journey through one of the Balkan's unique countries.
The trip follows a circular route heading south from Tirana, with the first part of the trip dedicated to the wild and adventurous side of the country with birdwatching boat trips, white-water rafting, hiking and gentle walks to natural thermal baths and springs in the countryside. We then switch the focus to Albania's historical and cultural sites as we head back north to Tirana visiting ancient ruins, castles and UNESCO World Heritage towns and finishing on the beaches of Albania's Adriatic coast.

Day 1: Fly to Tirana
Explore Tirana city centre and enjoy a welcome dinner. -
Day 2: Birdwatching on Karavasta Lagoon & Drive to Gjirokastra
Take a boat trip on Karavasta Lagoon in search of pelican and flamingo, and drive to Gjirokastra and visit the Vjosa Wild River National Park.

Day 3: Hiking in the Vjosa Valley & Cookery Lesson
Hike through the valleys, woods, rolling hills and villages of the Vjosa Valley, before getting hands-on with a cookery lesson in southern Albania cuisine -
Day 4: White-water Rafting on Vjosa River
Enjoy an exciting morning rafting on the Vjosa River with a delicious lunch by the river. -
Day 5: Walk to the Thermal Pools of Benje
Enjoy a gentle walk through the countryside to the village Benje and enjoy soaking in the natural thermal springs and pools. -
Day 6: Transfer to Berat via Apollonia Ruins
On the way to the ‘City of 1,000 windows’ stop and explore the ancient ruins of Apollonia. After arriving in Berat explore the UNESCO Old Town and Berat Castle.

Day 7: Drive to Durresi; Relax on the Beach
Drive from Berat to the coastal town of Duressi and have the rest of the day at your leisure on the city beaches. -
Day 8: Transfer to Tirana & fly to UK

Days 8-10 : OPTIONAL EXTENSION: Lakes & Mountains of Northern Montenegro
For those families who want to experience more of the Balkans, we can highly recommend spending a few days in the mountainous national parks in neighbouring Montenegro, such as the Prokletije National Park or the Durmitor National Park, where you can discover mountain villages, beautiful pastures, lakes and valleys, and get off the grid staying in traditional mountain huts.
