The biggest wave ever surfed was in Portugal. Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara rode a 24-metre wave in 2011, creating a new world record. With over 1,000 kilometres of coastline, and conditions to suit all abilities, Portugal is a fantastic destination for families to learn to surf.

Before famously living in Edinburgh, J.K. Rowling spent two years living in the city of Porto, developing her early ideas for the Harry Potter series.

The world’s only international zipline stretches across the Guadiana River between Spain and Portugal.
