Meet the Leaders

Our trip leaders are worth their weight in gold. They provide the colour and added spice to our selection of superb family holidays. We asked our guides what they most enjoy about leading a trip. Here is a selection of snippets from a few of the guides whom you may have already encountered or will have the pleasure of meeting on your next Families Worldwide holiday.

Dorothy  - a kayak guide on Active Gozo

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is introducing people to something entirely new and watching as they embrace a different way of seeing the world from their kayaks. The essence of my job is ensuring that every individual and each group experiences a real adventure, and takes away memories that will last a lifetime. This is especially rewarding when I'm kayaking with family groups; through the adventure of exploring hidden caves and archways, turquoise lagoons, and rugged coastlines, families share experiences and create bonds which are unique and unforgettable.

I discovered kayaking a little later in life, and having trained for two years in the South West of Ireland, I moved to the sunnier surroundings of Gozo for my first season. Travelling on and around Gozo is all about the journey and where it takes you. Its about finding those 'off-the-beaten-track' spots with the very best snorkelling, making mud-masks from the local clay along a hidden cove, feeding tiny lizards at lunchtime, feeling the crush of salt crystals in your palm and breathing the heavy perfume of thyme in the warm air. For an individual it is an incredible experience, but for a family, it is a chance to step away from the daily humdrum routine and simply enjoy something new...together.

Dang (Danny) - Vietnam

My name is Dang but you can call me Danny too. I'm 32 years old, born and raised in Hung Yên, a province in the northeast of Vietnam. For me, being a tour guide is my dream job; when I was a little boy I saw on television so many beautiful and famous places I wanted to visit, so I tried my best to pass an exam to get into the Hanoi University of foreign languages. After four years of hard study I had a permit to work as a tour guide in Vietnam, where I’ve been working for the past ten years. I love this job so much! I love travelling around, meeting so many different people in Vietnam, and I particularly like introducing travellers to our beautiful country, our thousand year-old history and the multi-culture of many ethnic groups.

My best experience was seven years ago when I took a group of travellers to my village where I grew up. It was first time people from a western country had ever visited the village, so several neighbours and village kids came to my house to see them, eyes open wide and with curious faces. My father was so happy to meet them and my mum fed them too much local food!

Vietnamese people are always friendly and hospitable so whenever you have the chance to travel, please come to visit us in Vietnam. I would love to show you our beautiful country!

Tomo – Active Croatia & Coastal Croatia

Hi! After over 20 years of experience working as travel designer, I decided to switch to being a guide. I have over five years of guiding experience, looking after thousands of happy faces and telling interesting stories. For me, the most rewarding thing about leading family trips are the children’s happy faces: I love entertaining them.

Croatia is such a beautiful country and my favourite tour would be the three island speedboat tour.  It is a tour where you are able to see non-commercial places and beautiful nature and where you will meet friendly local people and learn about their way of life. This tour is perfect for families and people who would prefer not to spend all day on a boat. You will encounter some spectacular views, in particular of Trogir and some of the nearby hidden bays, as well as pay visits to the island of Drvenik Mali, the really pretty fishing village of Maslinica and a stop to enjoy the stunningly turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon.

Thong – Vietnam

Hi everyone! My name is Thong. I am 36 years old and was born in the countryside around Hanoi. You know I’m a very lucky man because I have an interesting job as a tour guide and I’m living in a very beautiful country - Vietnam.

I studied foreign languages at university for four years in Hanoi from 1999-2003. After graduating l decided to work in tourism because l love to travel. It is said that ‘travel can broaden the mind’ so being a guide l have great opportunities to travel, to meet different people from all over the world and to learn local cultures in the areas that l visit.

In my opinion, the success of a tour for the guide are the smiles of their clients which will also help to keep the passion for their job. As part of the team, l am here to help you enjoy your perfect family holiday!
