Client Q&A: The Siddon Family in Tanzania

Tanzania offers a wonderful introduction to Africa, making it an ideal choice for a family safari holiday. The Siddon family embraced this opportunity, taking their children to Tanzania for their first-ever safari experience. Here’s how their journey unfolded!

Q. What made you choose Tanzania?

A. I was celebrating a big birthday last year and wanted to have a truly memorable family holiday to honour it. I’d been on safari before and absolutely loved it, but my husband and children had never experienced it. We chose Tanzania because it’s known for being a family-friendly safari destination.

I wanted to balance the safari experience with some rest and relaxation, so we tailored the itinerary to include some time in Zanzibar too. Overall, the holiday exceeded our expectations with plenty of wildlife, stunning scenery, new experiences and amazing family memories.

Q. What were your safari experiences like?

A. We did three different types of safari, each offering a different experience. The boat safari was on a small motorboat along the river and we saw a variety of different wildlife: hippopotamus, a fish eagle, yellow-billed storks, monitor lizards and crocodiles.

On the walking safari, we left at sunrise to avoid the heat of the day. While on our expedition, we saw some beautiful birds, a few small deer and lots of different trees and plants, including the mangroves. Seeing the beautiful colour of the sunrise was incredible.

Overall, the vehicle safari was our favourite because we saw the best variety of animals, including elephants, giraffes, vervet monkeys, baboons, waterbuck, buffaloes, warthogs and impala. Our guides knew all about the wildlife and plant life and taught us a lot about the wonders of Tanzania.

Q. Did you enjoy your Zanzibar extension?

A. Zanzibar was a great place to visit; it was beautiful with white sandy beaches and a turquoise sea. We spent most of our time relaxing with walks along the beach, splashing in the pool and snorkelling in the sea. The highlight for the children was visiting a sea turtle sanctuary where we fed the turtles and cleaned their shells. Our accommodation had a beautiful sea outlook and an amazing view of the sunset.

On the last day, we enjoyed a boat ride across the sea from Stone Town to Prison Island, where there’s a population of giant tortoises including one that was 198 years old!
