This active family adventure is a genuine original. Bear-watching usually involves sitting in a hide and waiting for bears to come looking for bait, but on this special trip you'll be walking through Slovakia's dramatic Tatra Mountains whilst looking for bears in the wild.
Your participation will contribute to a bear protection project run in co-operation with the national parks authority.
You'll also enjoy other activities such as cycling, some family fun at a water park, and seeing a historical play at Spis Castle. All in all, a great family adventure with a unique twist.
- Day 1. Join trip Krakow
- Day 2. Western Tatras
- Explore Krakow; transfer to Western Tatras; stay in park ranger's cottage.
- Day 3. Spisska Sobota
- Look for bears on avalanche slopes; drive to Spisska Sobota
- Day 4. Activities
- Optional visit to water park; afternoon cycling.
- Day 5. Spis Castle
- Visit Spis Castle; evening bear watching from lodge.
- Day 6. Walk bear trails.
- Day 7. Zuberec
- Drive to Zuberec.
- Day 8. End trip Krakow airport.
- Is it right for your family?
- To minimise disturbance to the natural habitat the group size is limited to just eight people. Observations on bear behaviour assist with the national parks' own research and conservation efforts. Some walking is on steep terrain, but the reward of seeing a bear in its natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Two nights are spent in basic ranger cottages, with the remainder in comfortable guesthouses.
