The Laikipia Plateau is situated at the foot of Mount Kenya and stretches from here to the rim of the Great Rift Valley. It is a beautiful and remote wilderness, about five hours drive (or a short flight) north of Nairobi. It is home to endangered black rhino, greater kudu, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wilddog and numerous other antelope and birds. Despite the great game viewing opportunities Laikipia is relatively untouched from mass tourism although offering fabulous lodges with fully inclusive safari experiences, which welcome families to take advantage of this unique destination. The best time to visit Laikipia is between July and October where the weather is warm and dry.
