The Great Rift Valley Lakes

The deep escarpment of the Great Rift Valley dissects east and west Kenya, in the foot of the valley lies a string of alkaline (soda) and freshwater lakes; Naivasha, Nakuru, Boringo and Elementaita. Lake Nakuru is renowned for its large colony of pink flamingos, feasting on the abundance of algae and tilapia fish. The lake also attracts White and Black Rhino, the rare Rothschild Giraffe, Cape Buffalo and the illusive African Wild Dog to its shores. Lake Naivasha is the Valley's highest and purest Lake, with fabulous bird watching including the somewhat clumsy pelican and the elegant fish eagle. Hippos laze in the waters while Cape buffalo, antelope, giraffe, warthog and monkeys feed on the lush vegetation.
