Swakopmund

Swakopmund is a charming seaside town and its cooler climate is a welcome relief from the arid desert. The town itself is a bizarre colonial relic, dating back to German occupation; full of traditional pastry and cake shops.

There are many activities to interest families. Enjoy dolphin and Cape fur seal cruises, kayaking from Pelican Point among the seals, or dune-bashing and quad biking to name but a few. You can even take a scenic flights over the Skeleton Coast or the Sossusvlei Dunes.

Other local attractions include a visit to Walvis Bay lagoon, a world-renowned bird sanctuary for some 160,000 birds, as well as a biannual feeding station for 200,000 migratory shore birds and terns.
