Swakopmund

Swakopmund is a charming seaside town and its cooler climate is a welcome relief from the arid desert. The town itself is a bizarre colonial relic, dating back to German occupation; full of traditional pastry and cake shops. There are many activities to interest families from dolphin and Cape fur seal cruises, to kayaking from Pelican Point among the seals, to dune-bashing and quad biking just a miles south of the town. you can even take a scenic flights over the Skeleton Coast or the Sossusvlei Dunes. Other local attractions include a visit to Walvis Bay lagoon, a world-renowned bird sanctuary for some 160,000 birds, as well as a biannual feeding station for 200,000 migratory shore birds and terns.
