In the southern part of Oman lies the distinct Dhofar region which can seem a world away from the rest of Oman. The home of frankincense this region contains both The Empty Quarter deserts and a lush tropical coastal plain. For three months of the year it is a huge magnet for the whole Arabian region as visitors come to escape the heat and enjoy the monsoon "khareef" rains. For the rest of the time it has a distinctly tropical and laid back feel about it - the perfect place to either explore locally or relax on one of the lovely soft sand beaches.
