Hanoi

Hanoi

For almost 1,000 years Hanoi has been the capital of Vietnam. It possesses a blend of 'East meets West', with Chinese influence from centuries of dominance and French designs from its colonial past. It is largely unspoiled by modern architecture of the 1970s and 80s, and is now going through a modernisation that makes it a rising star in South East Asia. In 1831, the Nguyen Dynasty renamed it Hanoi which can be translated as 'Between Rivers' or 'River Interior'. Hanoi is considered to be the cultural capital of Vietnam, where every dynasty left behind its imprint. Hanoi hosts more cultural sites than any city in Vietnam, including over 600 pagodas and temples. It is also home to many scenic lakes and numerous parks.
