Golden Rock

In Burma’s Mon State, the Golden Rock is a giant granite boulder perched precariously on the side of Mount Kyaiktiyo. It is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site, and the rock is said to be held in place by a single strand of Buddha’s hair.

It is five hours to ascend the rock on foot from the town of Kyaiktiyo, the less dedicated pilgrim may choose to take a truck most of the way up, and walk the final hour.
