A must visit from Aswan. It's well worth taking the short flight to Abu Simbel to see the magnificent Great Temple of Ramses II. So nearly lost under the waters of Lake Nasser when the Aswan High Dam was opened, but amazingly dismantled and rebuilt 60 metres higher. Marvel at the glory of these colossal statues that marked, spectacularly, the edge of Ancient Egypt and must have awed arriving visitors from the south.
