February Half Term Adventure Holidays

February Half Term Holidays Suggestions

What about a bit of winter sun in the gloomiest month of the year? It may not be too late to start thinking about your February Half-Term holiday (most schools break up Friday 12 Feb). The allocations of seats that we have with the airlines are due to be handed back soon, so now is the time to book, while we still have availability.

The February half term gives us a wonderful opportunity to go somewhere that is normally too hot in July and August but has perfect spring temperatures. Great places to go are Morocco, Egypt, India, Jordan and Nepal or go to the other extreme and try snowmobiling and husky sledding in Finland or onw of our other snow destinations.

Here are a few destinations we particularly recommend:-

NEPAL

Himalayan Adventure

Elephant bathtime, Chitwan This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime kind of holidays, and an amazing half-term to remember, for families with a sense of fun and adventure. Begin your visit haggling in the exotic bazaars of Kathmandu. A gentle two-day walk in the Himalayas is followed by a white-water rafting adventure to a river camp. Picture your children perched on top of an elephant searching for rhino and tiger at Chitwan, then canoe through the jungle and bathe with the elephants, they won't forget that bath time for a long time! For full details see our Himalayan Adventure itinerary. Himalayan Adventure Itinerary.

MOROCCO

Sahara Dune Adventure

Camels On the fringes of the Sahara, you will find nomad camps, desert markets and rock gorges as well as the stunning spectacle of giant sand dunes. This is real desert trekking and your imagination will be able to run wild in this perpetual wilderness. Of course you will have your camels with you so that if you fancy a ride you can climb on. It's all well within the capabilities of young children. There will be plenty of free time to climb the dunes and play in the sand. After two nights in the desert with limited water, you'll really appreciate the tented auberge complete with swimming pool. For full details see our Sahara Dune Adventure itinerary..

EGYPT

Nile Cruise

Sphinx and Pyramids There's plenty of time to relax and also absorb the history of Ancient Egypt on this holiday. From the bustle of Cairo, the grandeur of the pyramids and the treasures of Tutankhamun you'll then take an overnight train to Aswan. Here you'll board a cruise boat for three days that meanders down the Nile stopping off en route at the temples of Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. You can ride on camels, donkeys and on a calesh. You can optionally extend this trip to include a few days on the beach at Hurghada where you can explore the coral with a snorkel. For full details see our Nile Cruise itinerary.

OMAN

Dolphins & Dunes

Dune Bashing, Oman Oman has generally been overlooked by mainstream tourism but nevertheless this friendly country has an amazing variety of scenery and activities. Huge dunes, dramatic canyons and sandy beaches are explored by 4WD vehicles, on foot, in a boat and on board a camel. You'll spend time camping in the vast Empty Quarter desert with the Bedouins and also sleep on a dhow. There are opportunities to watch turtles, snorkel with dolphin and visit a working dhow yard. For full details see our Dolphins & Dunes Itinerary.

FINLAND

Based in a comfortable hotel right on the Arctic Circle, with a night in an awesome Snow-Hotel, you'll be able to experience a range of winter activities such as a dog-sled safari with a team of huskies and snowmobiling. One day is set aside for optional activities and you can choose from ice-climbing, ice-fishing, sleigh rides, cross-country skiing or a snowshoe walking tip. Relax in a Finnish sauna at the end of the day. Hopefully one of nature's most glorious shows, the Northern Lights, will also put in an appearance. For full details see our Ice Pop! itinerary.

You'll learn about the bizarre rituals of the Kathakali dancers and watch your kids dress up too! Then, a change of scene at the old British Hill Station of Munnar, set in the cool Western Ghats, before dropping down onto the plains again to visit the most famous temple (and spectacular) in India - the Sri Menakshi in Madurai. At Periyar you'll see herds of wild elephant. Then relax as you cruise the silent backwaters of Malabar's rivers and lakes by converted rice-barge.
