Easter holiday destinations - some suggestions

Easter Holidays Suggestions

Easter is coming up fast and it's one of the best, and most popular times of year to visit many of our destinations. Be aware however that there is often a real pressure on flights. The allocations of seats that we have with the airlines are due to be handed back soon, so now is the time to book, while we still have availability.

Easter gives us a wonderful opportunity to go somewhere that is normally too hot in July and August but has excellent spring temperatures. Great places to go are Morocco, Egypt or Jordan or go long haul and try Nepal, India and Costa Rica.

Here are a few destinations we particularly recommend:-

Nepal

Himalayan Adventure

White-water Rafting, Nepal This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime kind of holidays for families with a sense of fun and adventure. Begin your visit haggling in the exotic bazaars of Kathmandu. A gentle two-day walk in the Himalayas with comfortable camping is followed by a white-water rafting adventure to a river camp. Picture your children perched on top of an elephant searching for rhino and tiger at Chitwan, then canoe through the jungle and bathe with the elephants, they won't forget that bath time for a long time! For full details see our Himalayan Adventure Itinerary.

Morocco

Sahara Dune Adventure

Camel Shadows, Sahara On the fringes of the Sahara, you will find nomad camps, desert markets and rock gorges as well as the stunning spectacle of giant sand dunes. This is the real desert and your imagination will be able to run wild in this perpetual wilderness. Of course you will have your camels with you so that if you fancy a ride you can climb on. It's all well within the capabilities of young children. There's plenty of free time to climb the dunes and play in the sand. After two nights in the desert with limited water, you'll really appreciate the tented auberge complete with swimming pool. For full details see our Sahara Dune Adventure itinerary..

Egypt

Nile Cruise

Egypt Statues & Kids There's plenty of time to relax and also absorb the history of Ancient Egypt on this holiday. From the bustle of Cairo, the grandeur of the pyramids and the treasures of Tutankhamun you'll then take an overnight train to Aswan. Here you'll board a cruise boat for three days that meanders down the Nile stopping off en route at the temples of Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. You can ride on camels, donkeys and on a calesh. You can optionally extend this trip to include a few days on the beach at Hurghada where you can explore the coral with a snorkel. For full details see our Nile Cruise itinerary.

Oman

Dolphins & Dunes

Dune Bashing, Oman Oman has luckily been overlooked by mainstream tourism but nevertheless this friendly country has an amazing variety of scenery and activities. Huge dunes, dramatic canyons and sandy beaches are explored by 4WD vehicles, on foot, in a boat and on board a camel. You'll spend time camping in the desert with the Bedouins and also at Wadi Shab. There are opportunities to watch turtles, snorkel with dolphin and visit a working dhow yard. For full details see our Dolphins & Dunes Itinerary.

Costa Rica

Rainforest and Volcanoes

Volcano, Costa Rica Costa Rica is just made for families. It offers a wonderful combination of activity and adventure as well as superb beaches and comfortable accommodation. During this holiday you'll dip your toes in both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, experience the contrast between the laid back Caribbean coast and the ranches and cowboy country of Guanacaste in the west, and enjoy a dazzling array of optional activities in the rainforest - canopy tours, zip-wire riding, rafting, inner tubing and horse-riding. High mountains, dense primary rainforest, wildlife and empty beaches are just a few of the highlights of this compact and peaceful Latin American republic. For full details see our Rainforest and Volcanoes itinerary.

Thailand

River Kwai and Hilltribes

Elephant Ride in the River, Thailand This holiday offers a great mix of adventure and culture. Venture into a different world as you journey from the glittering temples and palaces of Bangkok, to the historic scenes on the River Kwai at Kanchanaburi and north into the traditional hill tribe villages on the border with Laos. For full details see our River Kwai and Hilltribes itinerary.

India

Backwaters of Kerala

Elephants, Thekkady The state of Kerala in India's southwest corner provides a perfect tropic escape. There's lots to interest the children - from seeing elephants and learning bush tracking to visiting a hill station tea plantation and learning to cook Indian dishes. You will find out about the famous Kathakali dancers and even have your face painted in the traditional style. One night your family travel by cruising gently along the backwaters on a "kettuvallam" house boat. If you have time you can extend your trip to the beach at Mararikulam for a few days relaxation at an eco-resort. For full details see our Backwaters of Kerala itinerary. Jordan

Crusaders & Camels

Adventure in Jordan - Camel Riding The highlights of this holiday are Wadi Rum where Lawrence of Arabia comes to mind and Petra with its amazing temples carved out of the rose-coloured stone - and the film set for The English Patient. However there is so much more - from swimming in the Dead Sea (or trying to), to Bedouin-style desert camping, sleeping out under the stars with camel treks and jeep safaris, to a visit to Kerak, the Crusader castle, to dipping your toes in the Red Sea at Aqaba. A real kids travel adventure! For full details see our Crusaders & Camels itinerary
