A visit to the interactive museum will help you understand the forces that shape Europe’s largest volcano, Mount Etna, and walks around volcanoes and up to their craters will really bring this island to life for you and your family.
Enjoy striking black sand beaches on the rural island of Vulcano and the impressive views of neighbouring islands, before culminating with a visit to the Alcantara Gorges, an area of waterfalls and crystal-clear rock pools created by ancient volcanic eruptions.
Day1: Fly to Catania
Arrive in Catania and transfer to your accommodation, before enjoying a sunset city tour.
Day2: Transfer to Vulcano Island
Visit Catania’s famous fish market, before transferring by boat to Vulcano island, famous for the Laghetto dei Fanghi, where it is said the mud can cure a surprising array of ailments. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore.
Day3: Gran Cratere
In the late afternoon, climb up to the Gran Cratere, which can be walked with ease on a well-graded path. Before reaching the highest point you will have the chance to admire the view of the neighbouring islands. This evening enjoy a pizza dinner.
Day4: Visit Stromboli
Travel by boat to the enchanting island of Stromboli. Walk to the ‘stream of fire’ where you can sometimes see the islands volcanic activity as lava flows out and plunges directly into the sea.
Day5: Transfer to Etna National Park
Take the hydrofoil back to Milazzo and continue to your accommodation in the volcanic landscape surrounding Mt Etna. Visit a tropical greenhouse where hundreds of butterflies fly around visitors.
Day6: Etna volcano walking & museum visit
Visit of the Volcano and Lava Museum, which deals with volcanism and the natural effects connected with the lava from the largest volcano in Europe. It is an interactive museum that will capture children’s attention. Follow one of the several path of the Park of Etna; the amazing scenery will captivate you.
Day7: Transfer Alcantara Gorges & Taormina
This morning, visit Golde dell’Alcantara and its wild scenery. In the afternoon, visit Taormina, founded in the 5th century BC by refugees fleeing from the destruction of nearby Naxos, the pioneer Greek colony in Sicily.
Day8: Fly back to the UK
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight back home.
