Look for elephants in Tarangire National Park, spot the big five in the Ngorongoro Crater and see herds of wildebeest in the Serengeti. Learn about the pastoral communities who live in the area and see the local hunter-gatherers as they look for food. Learn about early humans at the Olduvai Gorge, and spend time at remote camps in beautiful locations enjoying breathtaking sunsets and sharing stories around the camp fire.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to Kilimanjaro

    Take an overnight flight to Kilimanjaro, arriving the following morning.

  2. Day 2: Arrive in Kilimanjaro

    A representative will meet you on arrival and transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha. After lunch, visit a nearby Masai village and school where you will be able to meet with the Masai and learn about their way of life.

  3. Day 3: Arusha to Tarangire

    This morning, depart on an early game drive in Arusha National Park in search of bull elephants. Your game drive is followed by a visit to a Masai market. Continue to your next destination, Lake Burunge. This afternoon, your guide will take you to visit the Mbugwe tribe which live nearby and this is followed by a nature walk to Lake Burunge ending with a private sundowner.

  4. Day 4: Tarangire National Park

    Head out on a full day’s game drive in Tarangire National Park. Enjoy views of grasslands, woodland and Boabab trees as you look for animals such as elephants, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, eland and buffalo.

  5. Day 5: Transfer to Lake Eyasi

    Today you leave Tarangire and drive to Lake Eyasi, a tranquil, scenic lake just south of the Serengeti. Here you will be able to visit the Wadatooga tribe and a traditional blacksmith, and gain an insight into how they live.

  6. Day 6: Transfer to the Serengeti

    This morning, visit the Hadzabe community, one of the last hunter-gatherer societies in the world, as they leave to go hunting for food. Continue your journey to the Serengeti, stopping for a picnic lunch en route.

  7. Day 7: Serengeti National Park

    Today you will spend a full day on safari in the Serengeti. Look for wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, elephants, giraffes and lion as you explore the park’s iconic, timeless-looking plains.

  8. Day 8: Drive to Ngorongoro

    Travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at the Olduvai Gorge en route. This is one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world. Visit the museum for panoramic views of the excavation site. In the afternoon, visit a local Masai village for a cultural experience. This pastoralist community still lives in traditional ‘bomas’, made from mud and sticks, and raise their animals in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

  9. Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater

    Spend a full day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater on a game drive. Here you will see a spectacular concentration of wildlife, including the ‘big five’. Drive through tracts of dense forest and continue to the soda lake where you will see a variety of bird life.

  10. Day 10: Depart Arusha

    This morning, depart from Arusha with an optional stop at the local Cultural Heritage Centre. Visit a coffee plantation for lunch, and enjoy the use of a day room to freshen up before your flight. You may have time to visit a local community enterprise which employs people with disabilities to create unique, handmade gifts. Transfer to the airport in time for your onward flight. Evening flights to the UK normally arrive the following afternoon.

  11. Day 11: Arrive UK
