This classic Himalayan family activity holiday will take you from Nepal's busy capital of Kathmandu to the serene lakeside city of Pokhara and the towering peaks of the Annapurna mountains.
Combine awesome scenery and adventure in the beautiful country of Nepal. Stretch your legs on a mini-trek in the Himalayas – an expedition into the hills with an overnight stay near a spectacular lookout. Spend time visiting traditional Nepali villages, try whitewater rafting on the Trisuli River and explore the jungle at Chitwan National Park by jeep. You’ll see sunbathing crocodiles, rhinos, tigers and an abundance of birdlife.
Whilst this trip is normally 13 days in duration, we offer a shorter trip during the half-term holidays. Please see Itinerary footnote, or contact us for full details.
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Kathmandu.
On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the group hotel in Bhaktapur and will have some free time to relax and adjust to your new surroundings, as well as taking an orientation walk of the town and bazaar.
Days 3-4 :
Explore Bhaktapur on a walking tour and visit a town of artisans called Patan City. Walk to the market place, a centre-piece of Nepalese life and a UNESCO World heritage site, and visit a traditional village.
Take a scenic drive down to the valley of the Trisuli River. In the afternoon you can take a guided walk around the village or go on a rafting trip on the Trisuli River. Stay overnight in a small riverside village.
Continue westward to the town of Pokhara, where your hotel sits on an island on the lake with panoramic views of the Annapurna mountains. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to relax and explore.
Set off with your porters and Sherpa along a trail through charming villages in the Annapurna foothills, after which you’ll stay in a local teahouse and enjoy sunset views across the Himalayan foothills.
After enjoying sunrise views of the Himalayas, descend to Phewa Tal, the lake at Pokhara, stopping at a small village en route. Enjoy some free time in the afternoon to prepare for a Nepali party to which all your trekking staff and some children from the local area are invited.
Set off for the lowland jungles and the traditional settlement of Bandipur, where our hotel is situated in a classic location in the heart of Nepal’s middle hills. In the afternoon take a walk in the town and a lesson in making dal baht, a traditional Nepalese dish.
Days 10-11 :
Drive to Chitwan National Park, which lies at the foot of the Himalaya and is the habitat of the Bengal tiger, the rare Asian rhino and other wildlife. In the afternoon go out on a ‘rhino watch’ safari to hopefully encounter this awesome mammal at close quarters.
On the following day, take dug-out canoes to see sunbathing crocodile and birdlife that thrive in these floodplains. Explore the nature trails on foot, seeking out bush buck, spotted deer, monkeys and more.
Return to Kathmandu by air on a classic flight over the Himalayan foothills for 45 minutes before a road transfer to your hotel. The afternoon is free to explore the city.
Transfer to Kathmandu Airport for your flight back home.
