Typical Itinerary

Day 1: Depart UK
Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Tokyo.

Day 2: Arrive Tokyo
On arrival in Tokyo, your guide will meet you at the airport and you will catch a shuttle bus together to your hotel.

Day 3: Tokyo city tour; river cruise to Odaiba Island
Your guide will collect you from the hotel and take you to Asakusa, Tokyo’s old town. Your first stop will be Sensoji Temple, where you can see Japanese temple customs, then you'll explore Kappabashi-dori ‘Kitchen Town’, stop off at a ‘cat cafe’ and go for a river cruise to Odaiba Island.

Day 4: Day at leisure
Spend the day at leisure exploring Tokyo. Why not visit the Ghibli Animation Studio Museum or the Miraikan (National Museum of Science and Innovation)? For family fun, we recommend a visit to Tokyo Disney or Disney Sea; alternatively, you could travel to Chiba or Yokohama.

Day 5: Bullet train to Hiroshima
Catch a bullet train to Hiroshima and spend the day exploring this well-known historical city where, on August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. After years of recovery, Hiroshima is now a bustling city.

Day 6: Explore Hiroshima & visit the holy island of Miyajima
Visit the A-Bomb Dome, cross the Motoyasu Bridge to the Children’s Peace Monument, passing the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims and finish the morning at the Peace memorial Museum. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and then take a ferry to see the historical and religious sites on Miyajima Island.

Day 7: Travel to Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan
Take a train to Kyoto, home to over 2,000 temples and shrines, including 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. The afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 8: Japanese bento cooking lesson; visit temples in Kyoto
Spend the morning learning how to prepare a Japanese bento box in a machiya, a traditional Japanese house. In the afternoon your guide will take you to Nijo Castle, built in 1603, and Kinkakuji Temple also known as the Golden Pavilion.

Day 9: Day at leisure; fly back to the UK
Spend the day at your leisure before catching a shared shuttle van to Kansai International Airport in time for an overnight flight to the UK.
