Your tour begins in the capital, San Jose, and from here you travel through the cloud forest of Braulio Carillo and onto the waterways and lagoons of Tortuguero where you spend time kayaking and hiking. Visit Sarapiqui, famous for its adventure sports, go cycling in the shadow of Arenal volcano and hike to the famous waterfall of the sky-blue Celeste River. 

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Fly to San Jose

    Daytime flight from the UK to San Jose, arriving later the same day.

  2. Day 2: Travel to Tortuguero via Braulio Carrillo Cloud Forest

    This morning, travel through the Braulio Carrillo Cloud Forest National Park to Tortuguero National Park, admiring the great diversity of flora and fauna as you travel through the small canals and waterways.

  3. Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

    Enjoy a sunrise boat tour through the canals of Tortuguero National Park and observe impressive flora and fauna, including more than 309 bird species, sloths, monkeys, crocodiles and turtles. 

  4. Day 4: Travel to Sarapiqui

    Enjoy another morning boat ride through the waterways of the rainforest before continuing by road to Sarapiqui.

  5. Day 5: River Rafting

    Go rafting on the Sarapiqui river, a 14 kilometre ride on clear waters. The afternoon is free for optional activities.

  6. Day 6: Travel to La Fortuna

    Depart across the San Carlos lowlands passing by Vuelta de Kooper and Muelle to arrive in La Fortuna in the San Carlos Lowlands. Late afternoon, on clear days, you will have the opportunity to see the Arenal Volcano with its almost perfect conic shape. 

  7. Day 7: Zip line tour & hanging bridges

    Enjoy a thrilling canopy adventure located within the Arenal Conservation Area. There are a selection of towers and cables, and from the top of the tree canopy you will be able to see a variety of wildlife in its natural habitat.

  8. Day 8: Arenal Volcano National Park & hot springs

    Morning at leisure, and in the early afternoon, you will hike at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. More than 120 species of birds have been registered in this reforested area as well as a large variety of frogs, reptiles and mammals like sloths and agoutis. Afterwards, visit a nearby hot springs in idyllic tropical gardens.

  9. Day 9: Cycling adventure

    Cycle a trail that leads to the point where the forest, lake and volcano meet. Alng the way, you will have the opportunity to see many different birds like squirrel cuckoos, keel-billed toucans, crested guans and laughing falcons, as well as mammals such as howler monkeys and raccoons. Afterwards, transfer to Tenorio Volcano National Park. 

  10. Day 10: Tubing on Rio Celeste

    Today sees families floating down one of the world’s most beautiful rivers, passing through some rapids along the way. In the afternoon, hike through the Tenorio forest to the incredible waterfalls. 

  11. Day 11: Return to San Jose & fly back to the UK

    Transfer from Rio Celeste back to San Jose airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

  12. Day 12: Arrive UK

Flights
