This family adventure holiday in Mexico will see you delve deep into the Yucatan Peninsula with fun activities for everyone.

Soak up the atmosphere and hear stories of the Maya as you explore temples and pyramids. On this family holiday in Mexico you'll swim in cenotes, learn a little Mexican cookery and meet traditional hammock weaving families. See pink flamingos, grab a bargain in a market, experience a traditional Mexican hacienda and do a scavenger hunt among impressive ruins. We can also arrange some time on beautiful Caribbean beaches before or after your family adventure holiday ends.

Day 1 - Arrive into Cancun

Day 2 - Explore Tulum and cycle at Coba

Day 3 - See the Mayan pyramids of Chichen Itza

Day 4 - Visit Izamal, where you will meet hammock weavers

Day 5 - Take a boat trip to see the flamingos at Celestun

Day 6 - Visit a hacienda and take a mule cart ride

Day 7 - Take part in a scavenger hunt at Uxmal

Day 8/9 - Return to Cancun for flight home.

Day 1 - Arrive into Cancun
In the evening, meet your guide and fellow travellers.
Day 2 - Explore Tulum & cycle at Coba
Following breakfast, you'll head south to Tulum and visit the most picturesque archaeological site in the Riviera Maya. This ancient Mayan fortress city is the only one to have been built overlooking the ocean and there are spectacular views of the beaches and Caribbean Sea. Continue to Coba, another archaeological site which you can explore on bikes, or for smaller ones by trike with your own driver! Your guide will tell you tales of history of Coba, and you can climb to the top of Nohoch Mul Pyramid for a view out over the trees. Onwards to the colonial town of Valladolid where you'll spend the night.
Day 3 - Mayan pyramids of Chichen Itza
A short drive takes you to the most famous of Mayan sights - Chichen Itza. This was the centre of the Mayan world. You can see the prisoners' playing field and the huge Kukulkan pyramid. Head onwards to one of the Yucatan's most magical underground pools where you can have a refreshing swim - Cenote Ik-Kil.
Day 4 - Izamal, meet hammock weavers
This morning you'll travel to Izamal a former Mayan settlement meaning Place of the God of Medicine. The whole town is painted in yellow and white and there is a monastery built on the base of a Mayan pyramid. Next is Tixkokob where you can see local families practising the tradition of hammock weaving, you'll also visit a bakery to try a few Mexican delicacies. Late afternoon, you'll arrive into Merida, home for the next two nights.
Day 5 - Boat trip to flamingos at Celestun
Visit Celustun Biosphere Reserve today. Launches will be waiting to take you through the winding canals of this vast mangrove to visit a permanent colony of pink flamingos. Following your tour, you can have a seafood lunch (not included) in a thatched palapa restaurant on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico. Back in Merida, you'll explore the city ending with a short ride in a horse drawn carriage. Late afternoon, you'll visit a colonial mansion where you'll have a cooking demonstration and can try making tortillas, guacamole and salsas. Dinner here is included.
Day 6 - Visit a hacienda & mule cart ride
Visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peon where you'll step back in time as you explore this old farm. You'll be transported on wooden platforms on rails pulled by mules a form of transport that used to be used by workers here. You'll see how henequen - an agave type plant is made into rope. You can take a dip in the hacienda's own cenote. Continue to Uxmal. Here there are some optional (not included) activities you can do: visit the Choco Museum, learn about ceramic production or experience a Maya ceremony.
Day 7 - Scavenger hunt at Uxmal
After breakfast, you will explore the legendary Mayan temples of Uxmal, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This classic Maya site is considered to be one of the most complex and impressive. Your guide will explain the Mayan mysteries of the region as you learn about its engineering, architecture, and society. Afterwards you will have a fun scavenger hunt, where you will set out to search for a variety of clues that will draw on all that you have learned so far of this magical region. Following your scavenger hunt, you will enjoy a traditional Yucatecan meal at a local Mayan family Restaurant - slowly cooked pork and chicken, with achiote paste and wrapped up in banana leaves.
Day 8 - Markets and more
Visit a traditional food market where you can try different fruits and other foods you might not be familiar with. Continue to Uman cemetery - a colourful place full of miniature houses built as homes for the spirits of loved ones. You'll learn about the traditions of the Day of the Dead. Return to Cancun for a final night.
Day 9 - Departure
Depart any time today for a flight back to the UK or extend your holiday with some time on the beach.
