The Galapagos Islands are unsurpassed as a wildlife destination - a riot of colourful marine birds and animals will keep everyone thrilled as the story of evolution unfolds before you. Nothing can prepare you for the sheer drama of watching nature in action, and numbers of visitors are limited to preserve the habitat.

You divide your time between three islands, seeing the highlights of each. Scientists are still puzzling over the question of how such rich diversity of species could have evolved in such a remote location.

Day 1. Fly to Quito
Fly to Quito and stay overnight.
Day 2. San Cristobal
Fly to Puerto Baquerizo on San Cristobal in the Galapagos. Visit Interpretation Centre and walk to Cerro de las Tijeretas. Time to enjoy beach.
Day 3. San Cristobal
Boat trip around island. Swimming and snorkelling with sea lions. Panga ride.
Day 4. San Cristobal & Isabella
Morning free. Afternoon flight to Isabella. Visit Turtle rearing centre and Wall of Tears. Free time on beach.
Day 5. Tintoreras
Visit island of Tintoreras and observe sharks, turtles and iguanas. Chance to snorkel.
Day 6. Santa Cruz
Boat trip to Santa Cruz. See dolphins and iguanas. Visit Charles Darwin Station.
Day 7. El Chato & Puerto Ayora
Drive to El Chato. See Giant Galapagos Turtles. Hike into lava tunnel. Return to Puerto Ayora. Walk to Tortuga Bay.
Day 8. fly to Quito
Drive to Baltra, fly to Quito. Night in Quito.
Day 9. Quito to London
Check in for overnight flight to London.
Day 10. Arrive London

The Galapagos Islands make a fascinating introduction to the history of natural selection. You stay in hotels on three of the islands, travelling between them by boat and light aircraft. Two nights in Quito on the way out and back break the long flights.
