Travelling as a grown up family

Travelling with your family doesn’t have to end when you’re ‘grown-up’. The benefits? Going away as a grown up family or with teenagers offers a great opportunity to keep the family close whilst making new memories. Plus grown up kids should be able to pay for at least some of their share – making it a much more affordable way to travel.

Here at Families Worldwide, we love the idea of travelling together as a family – we often tailor trips for multi-generational and grown up families. Most of the trips below are run through our sister company, Walks Worldwide.

Trekking in the Atlas Mountains

Our Marketing Coordinator, Sophie is 25 and has just been on an incredible week-long walking adventure in Morocco with her parents. She shares her thoughts…

'We travelled with Walks Worldwide on the Marrakech & Atlas Short Break – we went Private Guided and tailored the trip slightly to add a couple of extra days in Marrakech onto the end. The trekking was challenging but ‘doable’ and we felt a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. Read my full blog about my trip on the Walks Worldwide blog here.'

See below for details on our Teen Bike and Hike adventure and some of our favourite Walks Worldwide trips in Morocco that are suitable for grown-up families.

  • Marrakech & Atlas Break

This is a demanding, yet very rewarding walking holiday through delightful Berber villages, green meadows in the backdrop of stunning mountains. The highlight is summiting Jebel Toubkal.

Walking in Andalucia

Matthew Bennett, a trekking expert for Walks Worldwide, also travelled as a grown up family…

'At the age of 27, and with my parents now retired to the West Country, it is sometimes hard to spend time with my family for more than a fleeting visit. Having flown the nest and embarked on worldwide travels of my own, my family are still the first people I turn to and I hold fond memories of the holidays we have shared over the years. As I was missing these, an early summer (outside of the school holidays!), trip to Andalucia was the perfect antidote!

We enjoyed walking together, a cafe culture and wonderful meals in a part of the world where the weather is fabulous and the pace of life much slower. It was about both the journey and the destination, with pleasant surprises aplenty, such as the unbeatable panoramic views from La Alquerie Morayma near Cadiar, a stunning estate which produces its own wine. Finishing in Granada and visiting the iconic Alhambra (remember to book in advance!), was another treasure which made this trip truly unforgettable!'

  • Andalucia – Along the GR7

  • Suitable for families with over 16s

The foothills of the Sierra Nevada afford delightful walking opportunities through open countryside, colourful fruit orchards and distinctive mountain villages with their white-washed stone houses.

  • Camino de Santiago

  • Suitable for families with over 16s

The French Way is by far the most widely trodden of all the Caminos. Begin in Sarria and walk the final 100 kms to qualify for the official pilgrim’s certificate on arrival at the cathedral in Santiago.

  • Best of the Lycian Way
